RESIDENCY PERMIT – D VISA

Foreigners intending to stay more than 3 months in Hungary may apply for resident permit at the Consulate. Information on residence permit procedure including the downloadable application form can be found on the website of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing: http://oif.gov.hu/index.php?lang=en 

Please note that as of 1 January 2019, third-country national family members of Hungarian citizens shall apply for a residence permit on the grounds of family reunification for residence exceeding three months. For further details, please click here.

1. The required documents for Residence Permit for the Purpose of Family Reunification:

  • 2 Facial Photograph (ICAO standard, good quality, colorful and not older than 6 months)
  • The 2 completed document (Application for Residence Permit and Appendix 2)
  • Documents verifying the purpose of residence  (birth certificate, marriage certificate; any other document attesting the existence of family relationship.)
  • Documents in proof of means of subsistence in Hungary
    - for example: a notarised statement made by the receiving family member promising support to the applicant along with a document in proof of the family member’s ability to provide such support;
    - an income certificate issued by the tax authority for the family member’s or applicant’s previous year’s income; an income certificate issued by the employer;
    - the family member’s or applicant’s bank statement of a Hungarian bank account;
    - a certificate issued by the employer and/or tax authority as proof of regular income received from abroad;
    - letter of invitation with official endorsement; other documents.
  • Documents proving the existence of hungarian accommodation
    - for example: a residential lease contract in proof of the rental of a residence
    - a document on accommodation by courtesy; 
    - a document in proof of ownership of the residential property, by means of a certified copy of title deed issued within 30 days to date, 
    - a valid letter of invitation with an official certificate affixed;
    - documentary evidence to verify the reservation of accommodation and payment;
    - a notarised statement made by a family member with the right of residence in Hungary as holding a long-term visa or residence permit,with immigrant or permanent resident status, holding a residence card or a permanent residence card in accordance with specific other legislation, or with refugee status, promising lodging to the applicant;
    - or a real estate sales contract and a copy of the decision of the competent Budapest or county government agency granting permission for the acquisition of a real estate property; 
    - other documents.
  • Documents proving the existence of comprehensive health insurance
  • Documents evidencing the conditions of exit 
    The conditions of exit may be verified by: a valid passport or the permits necessary for the third-country national for returning to his/her country of origin, or to the country, he/she indicates;
    - and a valid ticket for departure, or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket, or a means of transport lawfully used by the third-country national.

2. The required documents for Residence permit for the Purpose of Study

  • 2 facial photograph (ICAO standard, good quality, colorful and not older than 6 months)
  • 2 completed document (Application for Residence Permit and Appendix 14)
  • Documents verifying the purpose of residence
    -
     The pursuit of studies, as the purpose of residence, may be verified by:
    - a certificate of admission from the relevant educational institution;
    - a document to verify student status; or
    - other reliable means.
  • Linguistic knowledge may be verified by:
    a language certificate in proof of language proficiency examination,
    - an official diploma in proof of studies in a foreign language,
    - other reliable means.
  • Payment of public education fees or the fees charged by the higher education institution may be evidence
    - by a certificate issued by the tax authority.
    - The above-specified requirement may be verified by the education establishment in the certificate of student status as well.
  • Documents in proof of means of subsistence in hungary
    The requirement of subsistence may, in particular, be verified by a certificate on the payment of scholarship grant;
    - funds held on bank accounts;
    - other documents;
    - if the third-country national’s residence in Hungary is financed by his/her family member, family relationship is to be verified, together with documentary evidence in proof of such family member’s ability to provide support.
  • Notification of genuine hungarian home address
    -
     Applicants of residence permits for the purpose of studies are required to indicate in the application form a genuine Hungarian address as a place of accommodation. For the notification no separate document is required.
  • Documents proving the existence of comprehensive health insurance
  • Documents evidencing the conditions of exit

3. Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship

Dear Students, congratulation on receiving the scholarship! Please find below some basic information about the visa process.

  1. You will need to appear in person at our Embassy's Consular Section in Riyadh. You cannot apply for the study visa at VFS Global's visa centres. In case you are residing in Yemen and cannot come to Riyadh, please contact our Embassy in Cairo (Egypt) or Amman (Jordan).
  2. You are going to apply for a D-type visa, not for a short term C-type Schengen visa.
  3. Please bring all the necessary supporting documents with you, including:
    • filled application forms and 1 recent passport photo (forms can be downloaded below)
    • valid passport
    • letter of acceptance issued by the university/college
    • letter of award issued by Tempus
    • flight booking
    • proof of accommodation
    • insurance
    • proof of financial means (support letter, bank statement, etc.)

4. The required documents for Residence permit for the Purpose of Employment

  • 2 facial photograph (ICAO standard, good quality, colorful and not older than 6 months)
  • 2 completed document (Application for Residence Permit and Appendix 10)
  • Documents verifying the purpose of residence
    - If the foreign national plans to perform work for or under the direction and/or supervision of others, for remuneration, under employment relationship, the purpose of residence may, in particular, be verified by
    - A prior agreement concluded with a view to entering into an employment relationship, or a document verifying the employment relationship.
    - The owners, senior officers of any legal persons, who plan to perform work (in addition to their work as senior officers and representatives) and who submit an application for residence permit for the purpose of undertaking employment may be requested by the competent authority to enclose the same documents as are required from applicants of residence permit for the pursuit of gainful activity
  • Documents in proof of means of subsistence in hungary
    - In proceedings for the issue of residence permits, the requirement of subsistence may be verified by the following: a statement from a Hungarian or foreign financial institution concerning the applicant’s bank account;
    - an income certificate issued by the tax authority for the previous year;
    - an income certificate issued by the employer;
    - a certificate issued by the employer and/or tax authority as proof of regular income received from abroad;
    - other reliable means
  • Documents proving the existence of hungarian accommodation
    - Compliance with the requirement of accommodation in Hungary may be verified by a residential lease contract in proof of the rental of a residence;
    - a document on accommodation by courtesy;
    - documentary evidence to verify the reservation of accommodation and payment;
    - a statement on boarding (dormitory) services;
    - a document in proof of ownership of the residential property, by means of a certified copy of title deed issued within 30 days to date;
    - a real estate sales contract and a copy of the decision of the competent Budapest or county government agency granting permission for the acquisition of a real estate property;
    - other documents.
  • Documents proving the existence of comprehensive health insurance
